I bought myself a Josco Brumby to help get the rust off. It knocked it off in no time. You just have to make sure you wear a face shield and overall. It occasionally spits out steel wire that had been spinning and at couple of thousand RPM. It will penetrate your skin if not protected
It was always going to b e a scary prospect taking the cylinder head off a 64 year old engine. However I wasn't expecting to see quite this much rust in the cylinders. After YouTubing it I came up with the hack of filling the cylinder up with plain white vinegar. After leaving it for a couple of days then hitting it with a plastic scouring pad and WD40 it came up a treat.
After weeks of checking on Ebay & Gumtree, I have finally found a genuine Land rover 2.25 litre engine for the tidy sum of $100
